The largest international children's book fair opened in Bologna on Monday, April 8. The Ukrainian Book Institute (UBI) reports that Ukraine will be represented by 20 publishing houses.

Staryi Lev Publishing House, Vivat, Vydavnytstvo, Kalamar, Ranok, Mamino, and the Junior Academy of Sciences of Ukraine are among the publishers represented at the Ukrainian pavilion.

"The Ukrainian Book Institute has taken part in the Bologna Children's Book Fair since 2018. We are here to make our voices heard by as many people as possible throughout Europe and the world. We are also here to demonstrate the great force of Ukrainian book publishing, which develops wonderful books for the youngest generations of readers despite the tragic conflict," stated Oleksandra Kova, Head of the UBI.

This year's Ukrainian stand was themed after illustrator Oleksandr Shatokhin's "silent book" The Yellow Butterfly. The book was named to the international list of exceptional children's publications in the United States and won the Best Design award at the Book Arsenal festival in Kyiv.

The space with yellow butterflies is supplemented by postcards with stories about children slain or deported by Russia. They also highlight the lives of writers and translators who were killed in battle or as a result of the war, as well as the destruction of cultural infrastructure.

Olena Odynoka, Deputy Director of the Ukrainian Book Institute for International Cooperation, and Enrico Turrin, Deputy Director of the Federation of European Publishers. will host the event Tales of EUkraine: Intermediate Results as part of the fair's agenda.
